Julia Barrios de la Mora

I was born in Mexico City in 1991 as a first child of parents that teach in the Autonomous Metropolitan University of Mexico. I have two brothers. During my childhood I studied at Colegio Madrid, a school that was founded by Spanish Republican exiles. My education was private, not religious and with an analytical approach to every subject. I did almost 2 years of Architecture at the Autonomous National University of Mexico.

I love nature. I like films and I love to go to museums of every kind. I'm really interested in Surrealism, my favourite painter is Remedios Varo (Spanish-Mexican). My favourite writer is Julio Cortazar (Argentinian). I can invest so much money in food; I like to try of other cultures. I like chocolate, pozole, tacos al pastor, alambre de bistec con queso, French onion soup, quiche Lorraine, French snails, pastas, wings from Hooters, I love sushi and yakimeshi.

I started to dance, as many girls, classical ballet at a very young age, following the Ballet Royal system of London for many years. At the age of 15 I discovered modern dance and I didn’t take many ballet classes anymore. I discovered on my way Improvisation and Floor work. I never attended to a Conservatorium. I have danced salsa and some other Latin dances during my life, as well as a bit of the Mexican Folklore. I like to read about dance and to watch as many performances in relation to dance. I'm interested on making video dance. I like floor work. I find interesting the improvisation of dancers and musicians at the same time in performances or jam sessions. I would like to come back to my country when I finish my Dance-Maker Bachelor.
